Bella Cardim

Bella Cardim ((b. 1978, Rio de Janeiro) is a Miami-based Brazilian-born visual artist. Her artistic research and output are centered around emotional hunger and body image awareness. Transitioning from a successful career in commercial food photography, she now delves into the psychological impact of food, exploring themes of nourishment and indulgence. In her practice, Cardim employs various media, including photography, sculpture, textile art, and installation, to create visual narratives where materiality is essential to making her emotions tangible. Her work critically addresses emotional eating disorders and the perils of overconsumption, challenging unrealistic beauty standards and using art as a platform for personal introspection and broader societal commentary.

With a BFA in Graphic and Industrial Design and an MFA in Fine Arts, Cardim has exhibited at venues including the Coral Gables Museum, MOCAA, and Mifa Gallery, where she had a solo show. She was selected by The 55 Project for a solo show at The Bonnier Gallery in Miami and has participated in collective exhibitions in New York, Miami, and São Paulo. In 2022, she was included in the Florida Biennial curated by Ylva Rouse and received the “Director’s Choice” award at Art Fluent in Boston in 2023.
